Stylize Your Desk

Who says your work space cant be chic? Its easy to add a few simple touches to your work space to give it more style. Lets first start off with your current situation. We are all guilty of it....the mountain of papers and five month old magazines that we have yet to read. Take some time to figure out whats important and leave the rest for the waste bin. File your papers in a small filing bin or use colorful binders to store them in. Once you have all that taken care of you now have some space to work with.

Keep things simple you don't want to overcrowd the space. Take all the pens and pencils in your drawer and store them in a mason jar or cute mug. To add a little spice to your writing utensils, take your favorite faux flower and use green wrapping tape to secure the flower to the pen/pencil. Fill your jar with the the flowered pens and now you have a vase of flowers.

Install a bulletin board to show off your favorite pictures or keep important reminders. Add a cute picture or photo, I love this 'Keep Calm and Carry On', it was a cheep buy at Marshals, or you could buy one like it at Keep Calm.  Remember to keep everything simple and fresh, and you will have a great work space in no time!

Decorative Tacks

These are extremely cute and cheap to make.  I used sparkles for this demonstration but in the past I have used my favorite paint for the backs. For this project you will need clear flat glass marbles (you can find them at any craft store), clear adhesive glue, flat sides thumb tacks, and a glue gun.

1) Apply the adhesive to the flat side of the marbles and then sprinkle the sparkles onto the glue. Let dry for  two hours. Once dry, tap off the access sparkles. If you prefer to use paint, brush the paint onto the flat side of the marbles.

2) Heat up the glue gun and apply a small amount to the tack, immediately apply to the flat side of the marble. Repeat for the remaining tacks.

These would go great in a little tin box or jar as a gift. Finish it off with some ribbon and your all set for an easy gift to a host of a party or  a co-worker. Also, if you want to change it up, you can add magnets to the back instead of tacks.

DIY Bulletin Board

This is a great project because it is really easy and looks amazing when your finished.  It adds that extra spark in a bedroom, office, or even kitchen. For this project you will need 4 - 1' x 1' cork board ( I got a pack of 4 from Target), decorative ribbon (pick an accent color from your room), and sparkle tacks (see next post for directions).

  1) Take the 4 pieces of cork board and mount them to the wall so it makes a 2' x 2' square.
2) Take the ribbon cut in 2' strips and glue it along the border of the cork board and along the horizontally and vertically down the center.
3) Once the ribbon bordering is finished, use the sparkle tacks (look at next post for directions) to add your favorite pictures and cutouts.
